Aspen is a leader in the Utah green countertop market by recycling as much as possible. Over the last few years, Aspen has decreased that amount of waste sent to the landfill by over 25% by weight. The owners have visited with several local recycling facilities to learn better ways of dealing with waste. Through this research, we have found that recycling makes as much economic sense as it does green sense. Following are the green programs Aspen has implemented to this point.

Recycling up to 70% of the water used in fabricating stone countertops by purchasing and implementing specialized equipment to filter and clarify process water.
Recycling up to 95% of the natural stone used in making countertops, to become road base. This yields 35-yards/ month that is not going to the landfill.
Recycling Cardboard and packing materials from products we receive. This yields about 20-yards/ month that doesn’t go to the landfill.
Recycling scrap aluminum and ferrous metals from general operations.
Recycling office paper, plastic, and glass from daily operations. This yields about 3-yards/ month that doesn’t go to the landfill.
Replacement of incandescent lighting with fluorescent lighting.
Optimization of power usage management throughout company.
